Sixers Championship odds have been slashed following James Harden pay-cut

Date:

The Sixers were knocked out of the Eastern Conference semifinals for the second year in a row just a few months ago after ending the season with a 51-31 record. A lot has changed since then, and their odds of finally winning a Championship in 2022-23 is one of those things.

Sixers 2022-23 Odds are plumetting

Following the NBA Finals, The Sixers were +1600 to win it all next year according to Caesars Sportsbook. According to DraftKings, they’re now +1200. It’s very fair to assume that James Harden taking a $15M pay-cut to remain with the team and help them compete has played a big role in this, with bettors.

Surprisingly, the Celtics are actually favorites now at +550, while the Suns, Clippers, and Warriors all sit at +650.

Sixers fans were understandably disappointed when their playoff run came to an end on the back of a campaign that many feel should’ve netted Joel Embiid an MVP Award. Unfortunately, that somehow evaded him for the second season in a row. But with James Harden now pledging his alliance to the City of Brotherly Love, there’s a sense that the Sixers might finally be poised to make a real run and go toe-to-toe with some of their fiercest rivals over a seven-game series.

The Beard’s decision helped the team land coveted free agents P.J. Tucker and Danuel House, bolstering the roster and giving them some much-needed help. With a new-look team and an even bigger big-3 than before, the Sixers should be more dangerous than ever, at least on paper. The fact that the betting odds have already dropped 25% certainly reflect that view, so if you are thinking of betting behind them, there may be no better time than now.
