East Passyunk’s Philly Typewriter has the write stuff

Date:

East Passyunk’s Philly Typewriter will be celebrating a special holiday this weekend—National Typewriter Day. On Thursday, June 23, the venue will host a two-hour lecture led by Founder and IBM Selectric Mechanic, Bryan Kravitz, which promises to showcase the history, value, and relevance of the analog writing device.

According to a release, located at 1735 E. Passyunk Ave., Philly Typewriter specializes in the restoration and preservation of typewriters with a focus on mechanically restoring each machine while utilizing 45 years of expertise and skills, combined with museum-level aesthetic restorations. Every typewriter sold is backed by a two-year warranty and annual tune-up service program for both home and business. In short, Philly Typewriter specializes in the restoration and rehabilitation of typewriters throughout the ages, with the goal of creating and sustaining a fully functional piece of history.

Word enthusiasts, curious minds, and so on, can join Kravitz on National Typewriter Day for the in-depth conversation, which will cover the typewriter and the impact its return has had on the world, particularly regarding sustainability and security.

Those who head out to the venue on the 23rd can also expect tours of the workshop and typewriter museum exhibits – the newest exhibit being ‘LGBTypewriter: A Queer History as Retold Through the Typewriter’, installed earlier this month in observation of Pride – followed by a lecture from Kravitz. Following the main event on Thursday, the venue will then lead host an eight-week lecture series that Kravitz planned for this Fall.
